Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Where did you get the idea of your project? / What made you want to recreate it?
A: From the internet. Archimedes was one of the most famous Greek engineer. His inventions and theories have always been popular topics among modern engineers. Inspired by the perpetual motion myth on one of his famous invention, the Archimedes' Screw Pump,we decided to create this project for engineering 103.

Q: How efficient do you expect your model to be?
A: Because the model is much smaller than the real one, it's hard to judge whether the model is efficient. But our first expectation would be the whole model can work together and won't have problems.

Q: What materials are you using to build the model ?
A:We are using 3D printer to "print" the model. So materials that are used during printing would mainly be metal powder and plastics.

Q: How are you converting mechanical energy to electrical energy?
A: For now we plan to use a small alternator to complete that process.

Q: Which forces are causing energy to be lost?
A: Energy is being lost due to frictional forces.

Q: Can we prevent frictional force from being lost?
A: No.It is impossible to make any object 100% "smooth".

Q: If this is unlimited power, as you claim it to be? How come no company has thought to develop a large scale model of this?
A: It is cost inefficient to build a large scale model when there are better ways to get renewable energy.
